Dial Up Internet

📞💻 The end of an era is here. On September 30, 2025, AOL will officially shut down its dial-up internet service, the AOL Dialer, and AOL Shield browser—closing the chapter on a connection that defined the early web.

For millions in the ’90s and 2000s, that screeching modem tone was the sound of possibility—logging into AIM, joining chat rooms, and waiting patiently for pages to load line by line. Today, only about 160,000–265,000 households still use dial-up, but for those who do, it’s the final goodbye to “You’ve Got Mail!”

This isn’t just a tech shutdown—it’s a cultural milestone and a moment of pure internet nostalgia.
