MICRON GROUNDBREAKING: $100 BILLION SEMICONDUCTOR MEGA FAB IN NEW YORK | AI Revolution Begins
Join us at the historic groundbreaking ceremony for Micron’s $100 billion semiconductor manufacturing facility in Clay, New York – the largest single investment in New York State history! This mega fab will transform Central New York into the heartbeat of America’s AI economy, creating 50,000+ high-paying jobs and producing 40% of the nation’s leading-edge memory chips.
This groundbreaking ceremony marks a pivotal moment in American semiconductor manufacturing and national security. Micron Technology, one of the world’s leading memory chip manufacturers, officially breaks ground on a massive $100 billion investment that will establish four mega fabs in Clay, New York – each the size of 10 football fields. This project represents the largest construction site in America and will produce the advanced memory chips essential for AI, supercomputing, and quantum technologies.
The event features remarks from key government and industry leaders including Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon. Together, they celebrate the bipartisan achievement made possible by the CHIPS and Science Act and New York’s Green CHIPS Act.
The facility will create an estimated 50,000 construction and manufacturing jobs, with 80% of the workforce coming from New York. Micron has committed $250 million to workforce development and signed the largest construction project labor agreement in U.S. history. Production is expected to begin in the first fab within four years, transforming the I-90 corridor into America’s "semiconductor superhighway."
This investment addresses critical national security concerns by bringing semiconductor manufacturing back to American soil. Currently, 0% of advanced memory is manufactured in the United States – but within a decade, 40% of leading-edge memory will be produced right here in Central New York. The project will also attract an ecosystem of suppliers and support companies, further amplifying economic impact across the region.
The ceremony emphasizes the collaborative effort between federal, state, and local governments, demonstrating how public-private partnerships can revitalize American manufacturing and create generational opportunities for communities that have faced decades of industrial decline.
