GNY EP.189 | feat. Christopher Bruce of King Creative ("The Conspiracists" Indie Film)

In this episode of Good News York, host Noah Chrysler sits down with Christopher Bruce — filmmaker, professional mascot, ring announcer, MC, and all-around creative force — to talk about his comedy mockumentary feature film, The Conspiracists, and his return to his Syracuse roots.

Christopher is the founder of King Creative and operator of the Mascot Hall of Fame. He co-produced The Conspiracists alongside New York City-based Uncultured Swine Productions — a hilarious, mockumentary-style film shot in the vein of The Office, following a brother and sister attempting to host the world’s first all-inclusive conspiracy theory convention. When things start to unravel, one sibling fights to save "Con Con" while the other goes deeper down the rabbit hole. The film stars Broadway actress Terri Lynn (Book of Mormon) in her feature film debut and was shot entirely on location in Delaware.

Christopher shares what it was like to produce an independent film as the ultimate team sport, the wild characters and improvised moments that made it onto the screen, and the excitement of bringing the film home to Syracuse for a special screening event at the Palace Theatre on James Street on July 18th — complete with a Q&A with cast and producers. The film will also screen in New York City (The Players Theatre, June 28–29) and Phoenixville, PA at the historic Colonial Theatre (August 1st) — the very theater featured in The Blob.

Beyond the film, Christopher walks us through his incredible, one-of-a-kind career: from becoming the University of Delaware’s Fighting Blue Hen mascot to training performers for the NCAA’s official mascot JJ Jumper, to his work as ring announcer for X Rumble Celebrity Boxing, MC Pickles at The Burger Battle (bigdeal.com), a regular fuzzy face on Good Morning America, and running the Mascot Hall of Fame (mascothalloffame.com) — which is gearing up for its 2025 induction process in partnership with ESPN in honor of National Mascot Day on June 17th.

Christopher also talks about his partnership with the ESM film department, advice for young creatives, and why saying "yes" and showing up is still the most powerful career strategy there is.
