Sometimes the smallest details say the most. Jennifer Covert, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Eastern Onondaga County, shared the story of one of their longtime clients — a man who loves his Meals on Wheels drivers so much that he named one of them in his will to inherit his dog, Jack, when he passes. He didn’t even ask. He just did it. And if his brother isn’t around to receive his belongings, everything goes to Meals on Wheels. Jennifer was the first to admit it’s an unusual story — but it’s one that speaks volumes about the bond that forms between volunteers and the people they serve. For many of these clients, Meals on Wheels isn’t just a food delivery service. It’s family.
