Don Agate spent 20 years perfecting his chocolate chip cookie. But the signature touch that made it famous — the flaky sea salt on top — was a complete accident.
After forgetting to add salt to the batter one day while living unemployed in Montreal, he grabbed what his wife had on hand and sprinkled it on top. The result became the original Don’s Cookie, now one of the best-selling items at both Good Eats & Sips locations in Skaneateles. The gluten-free version has since taken over as the top seller.
Sometimes the best things happen by mistake.
