If you grew up in the Myspace era, you’ve had a Silverstein song on your profile at least once. Camp Screamo was the tour of the summer to reminisce about the good ol’ days. After making their way across the country, Silverstein and Story of the Year brought their tour to the Outer Harbor in Buffalo for its final stop. They went out with exactly the kind of energy you’d hope for from two bands that have been soundtracking their fans’ lives for more than two decades.

The Outer Harbor Live at Terminal B might have become my favorite venue to date: on the waterfront, with food trucks, ample grass and GA areas, and a beautiful view alongside incredible music. Fans filled in quickly and gathered their merch before Ally Nicholas took the stage. An up-and-comer from Chicago, grunge inspired warmed up the crowd that left fans wanting more. Origami Angel came out with cheers as fans were very familiar with their sound. The duo let us into the night, where we were left to want more and knowing we were fully prepared for the acts to follow.

Story of the Year kicked things into high gear, bringing the kind of chaotic, emotional energy that has made the band a staple of the post-hardcore scene. Hearing anthems like “Until the Day I Die” and “Anthem of Our Dying Day” live was the kind of nostalgia that hits differently when you’re standing in a crowd of people who know every word right alongside you. Lead singer Dan Marsala, let us know why they remain one of the anchors in the emo, hardcore scene. Bands like Story Of The Year will remain among the best.
Silverstein is a monumental band for so many, including myself. Songs of our teenage years and into adulthood, this band has not stopped bringing bangers to the scene since 2000. When they came out on stage, the crowd craved the songs that sucked them in 20 years ago, along with the new ones that hit all the same chords. Fan favorites like “Smashed Into Pieces” and “Your Sword Versus My Dagger” were in the first half of the set, followed by some newer releases, “The Afterglow” and “Stress”. There wasn’t a single person in the crowd not singing along or dancing to every single piece of this set. The band themselves are a perfect orchestra with incredible chemistry. And frontman Shane Told, took the time to nod to local NFL favorites, the Buffalo Bills, which made Buffalo fans fall more in love with the band. We take our Bills seriously here.
Between the visuals, lighting, and perfect sync of bands for Camp Screamo made the night a beautiful one. Summer nights are meant for nights like this; full of memories, beautiful views, and singing long into the night. Silverstein and Story of the Year will kick back up their Camp Screamo Tour this fall for another US round of dates. Check out the dates and cities they’re dropping by here. If you didn’t catch this round, you now have the chance to experience this incredible tour. Silverstein’s latest album release Pink Moon is incredible from start to finish so be sure to stream that everywhere now.
Thank you so much to Big Picture Media for the accreditation.
